Visitamos la calle sobre la que se fundó Las Vegas originalmente: Fremont Street. Lejos de hacer realidad nuestro mito de Las Vegas, y ver anuncios como el del vaquerito del Pioneer Club, nos encontramos con este permanente show de luces (enceguecedoras) y sonido (estridente) que instalaron a todo lo largo de Fremont Street y dieron en llamar “Fremont Street Experience”.

Una construcción tan importante podría haberse realizado en otro lugar de la ciudad, o del desierto, sin malograr el aspecto tradicional de la parte antigua de Las Vegas.

Mi amigo dijo: “es lo mismo que con la conquista: las catedrales podrían haberse construido en muchas partes, pero las construyeron sobre las pirámides”.

Yo distingo: “pero la iglesia sobre la pirámide son dos civilizaciones diferentes, una sobre otra; aquí se trata de la misma civilización que se auto-fagocita”.

We are visiting the street on which Las Vegas was originally founded: Fremont Street. Far from making the myth come true, and see signs like the little cowboy of Pioneer Club, we found this permanent (blinding) light and (deafening) sound show which was built all along Fremont Street and is called “Fremont Street Experience”.

Such an important construction could have been done somewhere else in the city, or in the desert, without harming the traditional aspect of the older part of Las Vegas.

My friend says: “it’s the same as with the conquest: cathedrals could have been built in many places, but they were constructed on top of the pyramids”.

I make a distinction: “but the church on the pyramid is two different civilizations, one on top of the other; here is all about the same civilization that self-devours itself”.
