“Next to the cross of Jesus there were his mother, her mother’s sister, Mary Cleofas, and Mary Magdalene”.

I don’t know how many hours Jesus Christ’s calvary lasted, but I think enough time for none of these women wanting to approach so much for being able to smell his feet…

I like the variety of formats and techniques in which baby Jesus appears.

First: sculpture.

Beneath it: painting.

To the right: a smaller size reproduction.

And to the extreme right: a color xerox copy, laminated.

Like in any good art fair, there’s something for every taste (and every pocket).

Luego me planteo: si me hago tantas preguntas…

It’s Ashes Wednesday. People approach the altar where they’re provided with the black ashes and the seal to print the cross on their foreheads. Next to the basket with ashes, a sign says: “I am regretful and believe in the Gospel”.

I wonder: are these two independent statements? I do regret what I did and on top of that I believe in the Gospel? Or I regret not having believed in the Gospel and now I do: ‘I believe in the Gospel’?

Then I think: if I am asking so many questions… is it because I do not regret? Or is it because I fear that, when I confess that I am regretful, I would be saying that I believe in the Gospel?

Catholic Church is not for me.

During the conference, a man stood up to make a speech. I don’t know if he was not prepared to speak, or he didn’t know what the event was about, or he was just overwhelmed by the feminine presence, but his speech started (textually): “I have to confess that the people I have loved the most in my life have been normally of the feminine gender”.

Now I say: “what the fuck?”

Someone please take the sentence of this individual, decompose it, and analyze it (and him too).

Why this mania of staffing animals showing their teeth? To evidence the bravery of the hunter? To justify that they were killed right when they were about to attack? Because teeth are so beautiful that it would be a pitty that they don’t show in a closed mouth? To generate tension on the spectator?

Whatever it is, it always look like the ‘bad guys’ are the poor creatures…

If something I enjoy of visual arts is the ability to use images in the way of symbols, and thus represent concepts which materialize in the audience’s heads without the need to be enounced by the artist.

For example, this symbolic engraving, where we can see a man in delinquent attitude, with dark glasses and a hat which says “Electricity Company”, grabbing some full bags with the writing “people’s money”, at the same time some individuals with working-class overalls and a hammer in hand claim with their fists closed for the return of their assets. The man walks in the direction of an arrow which points to the United States of America.

RES NON VERBA (facts, not words)

A Facebook friend, seeing several pictures I posted on the internet, let’s me know: “your lens is dirty”.

It’s true: my camera presents some stains on the lens which I have unsuccessfully tried to remove. I don’t want to get rid of it because I like the way it works, its size and comfortability: I am used to it. “Those stains are my seal”, I answer, as a joke, “that’s how I know the picture is mine”.

Days after, I realize that, since I was a teenager, I have some little stains in my eyesight that I notice only when I look on clear clean surfaces: a white sheet, a sky free of pollution. These little stains my eyes have and the ones on my lens resemble a lot.

On the plane they gave us horrible headsets: cheap, they had interferrence, very low fidelity. Before handing them out they made it clear that, at the end of the flight, they would pick them up. On the plastic bag where they came there was the same message. When the plane started its descent, we were informed through the loudspeakers that “in this moment we will collect the ‘entertainment system’ “. The worst is that I shouldn’t be complaining: at least they did not charge 3 dollars to give them.

The guy opens one of the overhead compartments in the plane cabin. Then, a red coat falls on the head and food of a passenger (she is the owner of the coat). He excuses himself a lot; rapidly folds and tries to put it back where it was. The woman says “wait”, takes the coat and, while he keeps saying he’s sorry, she checks that it has not stained and folds it tidily to prevent wrinkles. She gives it back to him so he puts it away and, while he looks into her eyes saying ‘sorry’ nonstop, he makes a ball with the coat and shoves it inside the overhead compartment.

We were kidding: what are these sausages made of? The father of a friend always said: “they’re made out of the dogs that get killed on the motorway”. His appreciation is very naturalist, I think. Some say that sausages are made of pig, and that pigs are fed on shit. “But it is not any kind of shit”, one says, “because my shit goes from the toilet to the river”. “Of course not; it’s poor people’s shit”, someone mentions. “The same that later eat the sausages”, another adds. They laugh. And I think next time I eat a sausage I will be eating the ouroboros.

The man was in rage when the lady guard, at Migrations security point, told him that he could not embark with a lighter. She did not shout, or said it loud, or made a funny face. She just said “with that you can’t go inside”. He acused her that “you’re all going to keep it”. “You can dispose it by throwing it in the bin yourself; we don’t keep anything”. He continued to curse while his wife acknowledged him to be right.

My question is: where was this man the last 10 years? I don’t mean that he has to have flown anywhere but, doesn’t he have a friend who has told him how tortuous the situation at the airports is?

I don’t understand if the Anglo Argentine Cultural Group is indeed the Cultural Inglesa, the Cultural Anglo Argentina, or the School of English, or all at the same time. I think it’s evil to take advantage of the desperation of the mothers to make the children inevitably study English this year.
