- Ah. Me parecía – concluyó -.

Luckily, by this stage of my life either I like people’s remarks or not, seem good or bad to me, but I don’t get disturbed by the fact that they would be ‘politically incorrect’. However, my exposure to the American culture has given me the ability to detect (as if I had an alarm) the degree of political inaccuracy that a remark can have.

I was at my friend’s home, using the computer, when a maintenance employee came to bring something. His name was ‘Roger’. He greeted me very kindly and he explained to me the purpose of his visit. I let him enter while he asked me:
- Do you live here?
- No – I said -. It’s a friend’s home.
- Oh! I thought that – he concluded.- Because I came earlier this morning and there was a white man.
My alarm turned on: if there was a white man in the morning, that turned me into an ‘Hispanic’, ‘Black’ or ‘Asian’. Any citizen or permanent resident of the United States would accuse him of discrimination.
